Infrared Spectra of Noble Gases (12000 to 19000 A)

چکیده
The first spectra of helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon, excited by discharges in Geissler tubes, operated by direct connection to a transformer, have been explored in the infrared (12000 to 19000 A). A high-resolution, automatically recording, infrared spectrometer, employing a 15000-lines-per-inch grating and lead-sulfide photoconducting detector, was used as the dispersing instrument. A new set of wavelength values is reported for all these spectra. New data include 18 previously unreported lines of neon and 36 of krypton, all of which have been classified. The descriptions of the spectra of argon, krypton, and xenon represent essentially a repetition of the observations of Sittner and Peck. Several previously missing classifications are supplied, also a few amended interpretations. The analysis-of these spectra may be regarded as complete. Use of selected lines as wavelength standards is suggested..

متن کاملThe Possibility of Selective Adsorption and Sensing of the Noble Gaseous Species by the C20 Fullerene, the Graphene Sheets, and the N4B4 Cluster
There are only a handful reports about the sensor systems having the ability of detecting the existence of the noble gases. Chemical reluctance of these gaseous species causes them to have no chemical interactions like hydrogen bonding with the chemically designed nano-sized sensors. Noble gasses usually have no atomic charges nor do change the total polarity of the molecular sensor systems. Th...
متن کاملElectron shell contributions to gamma-ray spectra of positron annihilation in noble gases
Gamma-ray positron annihilation spectra of the noble gases are simulated using computational chemistry tools for the bound electron wavefunctions and plane-wave approximation for the low-energy positron. The present annihilation line shapes, i.e. the full width at half maximum, ε, of the γ -ray annihilation spectra for He and Ar (valence) agree well with available independent atomic calculation...
متن کاملRetrieval algorithm for CO2 and CH4 column abundances from short-wavelength infrared spectral observations by the Greenhouse gases observing satellite
The Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite (GOSAT) was launched on 23 January 2009 to monitor the global distributions of carbon dioxide and methane from space. It has operated continuously since then. Here, we describe a retrieval algorithm for column abundances of these gases from the short-wavelength infrared spectra obtained by the Thermal And Near infrared Sensor for carbon Observation-Fouri...
متن کاملBremsstrahlung of nitrogen and noble gases in single-bubble sonoluminescence
A hydrodynamic model, discussing neutral gases as well as plasmas, is applied to simulate single-bubble sonoluminescence. In this model, thermal conduction and various inelastic impact processes such as dissociation, ionization, and recombination are considered. Bremsstrahlung is assumed as the mechanism of the picosecond light pulse in sonoluminescence. Diatomic nitrogen and noble gas bubbles ...
